Jennifer Knapp is the Clinical Director of Bridging Hope Counseling and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She is an AAMFT, MN LMFT and LPCC Approved Supervisor. Jennifer has extensive experience working with teens, adults, and couples. She believes each person has the desire and ability to live their fullest life and that sometimes people need support along the way to learn to trust themselves and fulfill their true potential. Jennifer creates a safe environment where the client is free to be vulnerable, take risks, explore all the options and possibilities and really come up with strategies for success. Jennifer believes an essential element of therapeutic success is a collaborative relationship between herself and her clients. Her approach to therapy focuses on attachment, connection, and an exploration of patterns and beliefs. Her training in EFT, EMDR, DBT, and trauma informed therapy informs her work with clients.  She currently has very limited openings and is not taking new clients.

The therapeutic relationship is fostered by openness, caring and honesty.  Jennifer’s approach to therapy feels authentic and relatable, and applicable to client’s current life stressors. She focuses on present day issues and concerns while balancing exploration and awareness of past experiences and how they may be impacting the current situation. She is committed to working with at risk youth and their families, as well as individuals and couples striving for personal insight and a meaningful experience

Jennifer is passionate about parenting and supporting families to make the best decisions possible for their children, especially as they navigate through tough relationship issues. She genuinely enjoys working with teens and parents and is able to build rapport with adolescents, working through the surface attitude to make an authentic connection. Working with both the adolescent and their families encourages positive communication, cohesiveness and mutual respect between family members. Adolescence can be a tough time full of shifting roles, expectations and responsibilities. Jennifer works with the family to continue to strengthen their foundation and ease this transition.

She also specializes in high conflict couples, people who have experienced trauma or are currently experiencing significant relationship issues, and parents striving to support and understand their children through all the developmental changes that come with growing up. Jennifer enjoys working with couples, particularly regarding connection issues. Jennifer is EFT trained and uses an attachment perspective to help strengthen couple bonds. She is particularly comfortable working with issues of trust, infidelity, anger and betrayal. Most of us have a deep desire to just be heard. Couples’ therapy creates the opportunity for this to happen as the intimate relationship evolves and grows.

Jennifer also works with women that may be involved in codependent or unhealthy relationships and adolescents who are struggling through their own transitions. Jennifer is EMDR trained, a specific form of therapy that allows people to process through trauma and intense experiences. She is also DBT trained and co facilitates several DBT groups a week. DBT focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. She has also received specialized training in couple’s communication, infidelity, and sand tray therapy. Her legal training and experience also makes her uniquely qualified in working with individuals and families processing through a divorce or coming out of the divorce process.
