Janelle began her career working with adolescents in a variety of camp and wilderness therapy programs, leading 30-day backpacking/camping/canoeing trips in Northern Minnesota and New Mexico. Janelle wanted to build on this experience to have an even greater impact on families and young adults.  In 2010 she received her Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary's University of Minnesota.

Janelle is passionate about supporting families, helping couples find their way back to each other and watching clients gain personal insights. Adolescents often appreciate that Janelle will “tell it like it is”, she is warm and authentic, young adults naturally open up to her. Janelle works to enhance communication, build respect and help family members adjust to shifting family dynamics and roles with their young adults.

Janelle loves to help high conflict couples reach a calmer place, rebuild connection, and strengthen their emotional and physical intimacy. Janelle starts with communication skills, learning to fight fair, and finding your way back to vulnerability. She works with issues of trust, infidelity (physical and emotional), lack of connection, resentment, betrayal and shame. Most of us want to be seen, heard and validated, together we will get you back on track in your relationship.

Janelle has a special interest in working with people who have experienced trauma, a disturbing event or painful memories from childhood. If you are bothered by something from your past, if you have nightmares or flashbacks, Janelle can help you gain resolution. She is trained in a highly effective and extensively researched method called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).  In addition, she is trained in Brainspotting (https://brainspotting.pro/), similar to EMDR, both are powerful interventions for processing trauma, painful memories and stressful situations.  If you are having a hard time overcoming a life event, a memory, or you feel stuck, this is a good tool for us to use.

In addition, Janelle brings her training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, a research-based therapy offering tools and strategies to help couples. Janelle will often want to hear about your story, this is a form of Narrative Therapy, an effective and non-assuming way for clients to feel honored and heard. For couples at the beginning of their journey, Janelle is certified in the PREPARE/ENRICH pre-marital and marital inventory. You will find Janelle co-facilitating Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) groups on Tuesdays, as well as individual DBT therapy sessions.
