DBT Skills Substance Abuse Recovery Group - Starting September 16th

Bridging Hope Counseling works with individuals, couples, and families from communities surrounding the Minnesota Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

What group member can expect from this group:

  • Group members will learn the skills of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which is an evidence based strengths approach that will provide group members skills to “create a life worth living”.
  • Members will learn how to apply Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness skills to their daily life to support their recovery journey and over all mental health.
  • Distress Tolerance Skills will help strengthen existing coping skills and teach additional ways to manage distressing events in life.
  • Emotion Regulation skills will teach group members how t recognize their emotions and better understand what to do with them.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness Skills will help to improve communication with others as well as being able to advocate for oneself and needs to main sobriety.
  • Lastly, Mindfulness Skills will allow the opportunity for self-reflection and help support continued success with personal goals.

 

Unlike verbal therapy group or some AA meetings this group will not have a significant amount of time spent talking about personal issues.  This group is designed to teach Dialectical Behavior Skills and actively practice using them during group.   

Wednesdays 3:30 to 5:00pm

Length: 6 months (24 weeks)

Facilitators: Cindy Meyer, MA, LADC, LMFT

Those who can attend this group:

·         Adult Men and Women (18 and older)

·         Those currently committed to sobriety, preferably with a minimum of 28 days of sobriety.

·         Those actively in treatment (need to verify insurance with this for billing purposes)

Cindy Meyer is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  Cindy has a wide variety of experience working with individuals, families and couples.  In addition to a clinic setting Cindy as worked in hospital, in-home, day treatment and correctional settings which have provided her a depth of knowledge for working with clients and families.  Her extensive work in varied settings has provided her the opportunity to work with a range of clients from those actively seeking therapy to those that are more resistant.  Cindy has a passion for teaching Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills and in addition to leading adolescent and adult DBT groups she also teaches those skills to clients one-to-one.  Cindy received her BS degree in Child Psychology and Family Social Science.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Post Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies from the University of Minnesota.
