    Fee-for-Service versus Insurance

Many people do not understand what is means to receive counseling or mental health services.  To have therapy services covered under insurance, you have to have a mental health diagnosis.  Once you have a mental health diagnosis, this becomes a part of your permanent health care record. Since you have a mental health diagnosis, the insurance company may have access to your clinical information about you to be covered.  Your diagnosis, treatment plan and case notes may be released to the insurance company if they request this information. We want to make sure our clients know the difference.  It’s great to use your insurance benefits, we also want you to understand it means you will receive a mental health diagnosis.
